What it does
The platform stops the process (SIGTERM, then SIGKILL after 5 seconds), starts the same release again and waits for /healthz. In-memory state is lost: caches, open database connections, queued work.
When it is the right action
- Leaked resources: connections (rb-004) or memory (rb-006).
- A process stuck in a bad state after a dependency outage.
When it is not
- A bad release (it restarts into the same code; roll back instead).
- A slow or failing dependency (the dependency is still slow after the restart).
